The Woodside Warriors Soccer Club will hold its 2009 Registration Day on Sunday, February 8th, with committee members taking registrations from 9am to 11am at the Woodside Recreation Ground.
The Warriors Club will enter its fifth year on a high, having celebrated a successful 2008 season, as well as securing new major sponsors – GOLDTEC CONTROL SYSTEMS and TRISTAR ELECTRICAL.
The two major sponsors will appear on the Warriors new club shirt, which will be worn by members from 2009 through to 2011.
The young club has had a steady increase in member numbers since its inaugural 2005 season. Soccer has become popular with boys and girls alike, with the Socceroos 2006 World Cup Campaign and the more recent success of Adelaide United adding to the sports popularity.
The 2008 season was the Warriors most successful year to date. The Club can now boast U11 Boys and U11 Girls Age Group Winners for the 2008 AHJSA Carnival (Adelaide Hills Junior Soccer Association), U11 Boys and U14 Girls Cup Winners for the 2008 AHJSA and AHJSA 2008 Best and Fairest Runner Up for U11 Boys (Riley Bucco) and U14 Girls (Tiffany Vears).
To add to this, the Warriors had a total of 12 members representing the Adelaide Hills in the State and Country Championships and 2 members selected for participation in the State Talent Identification Championships.
The Warriors Club rates its success higher than these achievements, with fair play, participation and enjoyment being the club’s main focus. Game days at Woodside highlight this with boys and girls cheering on club mates and parents offering encouragement and support.
The success of the club in such a short time could be down to the community spirit and family vibe within the club. This has created a wonderful environment for young players within the district to keep active, building confidence and skills along the way.
The whole community has got behind the club, with many local businesses offering support in the form of sponsorship and donations. The Woodside Warriors Soccer Club is certainly a club for the whole family, with parents invited to join the ‘Warriors Family’ as Managers and Coaches.
The Woodside Warriors Soccer Club is part of the Adelaide Hills Junior Soccer Association, which caters for boys and girls with an Open League and Girls League, ranging from U8 through to U16.
Players from the age of five can become involved through the Warriors U7 Development Squad and the 2009 season will see a change in format for the U8 and U9 competition.
Small Sided Games are being introduced for the U8 and U9 age group which encourages greater participation from players.
This allows players more time on the ball, improving their ball skills and confidence and generally making the experience more enjoyable for them.
The Woodside Warriors Soccer Club would like to thank its members, managers, coaches, sponsors, supporters and the Woodside Recreation Ground for a successful 2008 season.
The Warriors anticipate another exciting year ahead and will continue to promote fair play, participation and enjoyment in 2009.
