Several members of the Torrens Valley Lions Club took time out recently to enjoy a social weekend of camping and fellowship at Melrose, together with partners and friends.
Participants are seen here cooking a communal roast dinner on the campfire complete with vegetables and damper!
This weekend was a well-earned rest, at the culmination of a busy year of service to the community.
This service included fundraising efforts through barbecues at Bunnings, Gumeracha Markets, Australia Day Breakfast and clearance sales; traffic marshalling at local cycle events; collecting gate takings at the Mt Pleasant Show; assisting at the Gumeracha Medieval Fair; wood raffles; and collection of donations through the Wishing Well at the Gumeracha Toy Factory,
The proceeds of these fundraising efforts translated into donations to international, national, and local causes, including monetary and in-kind assistance to Birdwood High School students (Operation Flinders, driver education and student progress reviews); sponsorship of individual students to participate in sporting events; support of community Green Shed to purchase rainwater tank and stand, and materials for lining and insulating shed; donation of wool for Gumeracha knitting group; catering for the children’s Christmas Party and Anzac Day Dawn Service in Gumeracha.
The Torrens Valley Lions Club serves the area bounded by Mt Pleasant to Inglewood, Kersbrook to Mt Torrens.
Meetings are held on the first and third Thursdays of each month at 7.30pm at the Gumeracha Hall and various other venues in the area.
