Totally PleasantOnce again, the Mt Pleasant Show Committee presented an action-packed day on March 21st, 2009. And judging by the record turnout, the 146th Mt Pleasant Show was a brilliant one!

Crowds packed in to see the Shearing Competition and watch the largest field of competitors yet chase Shannon Warnest, last year’s winner. Shannon however, was up to the challenge and defended his title. The intermediate class had a record 24 entries with more than 40 shearing over the day. Continue reading Totally Pleasant!

Gumeracha Town Hall Centennial Year 2009Friday, February 13th saw the commemoration of the laying of the foundation stone of the, then new building, for the Town Hall, in 1909.

Some 40 residents, many from the pioneer families of the district, and the staff and 105 students from Gumeracha Primary School attended the ceremony.

Shows have been part of South Australian life since the early settlers arrived. The first recorded show was held in Adelaide in 1840, which started a trend that quickly spread throughout the State. The whole idea was, and still is, to showcase the districts’ best and bring people together.

The 121st Uraidla and Summertown Annual show book is out now for the upcoming show on Saturday February 21st. The book lists all sections and classes that are open to anyone, not just experienced show competitors, in fact, new faces are encouraged.
