The stobie poles that have lined Gumeracha’s main street for decades were recently removed along Albert Street from the Soldiers Memorial Hospital to Randell Terrace in the first step in the Gumeracha streetscape upgrade.
Expanded polystyrene is a type of plastic that can now be recycled at the Heathfield Resource Recovery Centre. The Adelaide Hills Council has installed a polystyrene melting machine at the Centre, thanks to a Recycling Infrastructure Grant from Green Industries SA. This is a fantastic opportunity to recycle moulded polystyrene, often used in packaging. The service is free, but the polystyrene must be in particular condition to be viable for recycling—white, clean, dry and unbroken (please don’t break it up).
The Mt. Pleasant Farmers Market continues to flourish with a consistently patronised market hall and breakfast atrium every Saturday, and high rates of market membership and stall holder numbers. Early in 2022, the market will celebrate their milestone 10th birthday.
Story and photographs by Billy-Jo Brewer (President, Friends of Lobethal Bushland Park)
Sixteen months on from the Cudlee Creek bushfire, and Lobethal Bushland Park is recovering wonderfully. A visit to the park will show you ‘Ecological Succession’ in action. The previously scorched earth is hardly visible in most areas beneath an abundance of vegetation which has germinated and resprouted on cue.
The Mill Road Pocket Forest is a Lobethal Community Association bushfire recovery project. Stage 1 was planted last year and the planting of Stage 2 is about to commence over autumn and into winter this year.
Currently on show at the Mill Road Pocket Forest are pops of purple from Mexican Sage, red Kangaroo Paw and the autumnal leaves of deciduous trees. As the garden grows and the seasons change so will the display.
This has been very true for the show ‘LOVE! LOVE? LOVE…’ that Top of the Torrens Theatre Group started developing at the beginning of 2020.
COVID delayed the show twice, but now, finally, we are ready to dish this beauty up in 2021. Some of our original cast had to withdraw from the show, but others came along and filled the gap with their own special talents.
