Australia has long been known as a country with strict quarantine laws. Laws designed to prevent the introduction of human, animal or plant diseases and pests. These laws have served us well in escaping many crises, such as rabies, foot and mouth, and fire blight – until now. If we could turn back time, we’d say no to rabbits, cane toads, foxes and blackberries; so orchardists Australia wide are asking, why are we saying yes to fire blight now? Mindfulness & Wellbeing
How often do you drift off in thought while doing things you’ve done every day, not really mindful, nor present in that moment? Perhaps it happens to you when you are driving, showering, cooking, ironing, gardening or watching something. It happens to everyone and it’s actually not that easy to live in the moment and observe everything that is happening right now, especially when we all seem to have so much to do these days. SA’s Junior Motocross Champions
Photos and story by Kendrea Rhodes
Pictured: Damon Hill and Kurt Waterman.
You don’t have to go far in Springton to be on a dirt road. The people who live there love that relative isolation and many have moved in search of a more peaceful lifestyle. In summer the countryside is dry, but after a wet winter, the grass lays in mats of green, pooling around the weathered stony outcrops like perfectly lain carpet. The odd gum tree, surrounded by grazing livestock, adds to the utterly ‘paintable’ scene. Continue reading SA’s Junior Motocross Champions

STILL LOCAL
You’d like a bloke who loves football, cars and motorbikes: a bloke who grew up in the hills and now lives on a 10 acre hobby farm with his wife and children. You could relate to someone who has been influenced by his father and some might say, following in his footsteps: a bloke who considers himself an absolute hills person. These criteria could fit many people in the hills, but the person I am talking about is Mark Goldsworthy (pictured above).
He is our sitting parliamentary member for the electoral district of Kavel. He is passionate about his community, one that he, and his own children, have grown up in. He has been our elected member for the last 8 years and enjoys driving around the district, attending to the diverse issues faced by the locals. Continue reading STILL LOCAL
Greiner’s Kitchen
The former Top End Takeaway in Lobethal now has a new look, feel and purpose. To the average person it may seem like any other “take away cafe”, but there is a subtle and very important distinction: the new owners, Marissa and John Greiner, are experienced chefs – high quality food is their life.
The modern décor, with deep red and earthy colours, alongside the new stainless steel kitchen, expresses their stylish approach. The menu balances conventional with contemporary. Traditional Italian pizzas include Puttanesca, Quattro Formaggi and Proscuitto e Funghi. Or for something more modern, you might like the Vegetarian, Spicy Mexican, Meat-lovers or BBQ Chicken pizza – using only organic chicken. All meals are made from scratch by Marissa and John on the premises; pizza bases, curries, burgers, sandwiches, cakes and all day breakfasts. Fresh batter is made daily for the fish and chips, along with mayonnaise and tartare sauce. John even uses his own brew in the beer batter for that authentic taste. Continue reading Greiner’s Kitchen
Torrens Valley Lions enjoy a well-earned rest!
Several members of the Torrens Valley Lions Club took time out recently to enjoy a social weekend of camping and fellowship at Melrose, together with partners and friends.
Participants are seen here cooking a communal roast dinner on the campfire complete with vegetables and damper!
This weekend was a well-earned rest, at the culmination of a busy year of service to the community. Continue reading Torrens Valley Lions enjoy a well-earned rest!
