The Lobethal Community Website, www.lobethal.sa.au was launched last month at the Lobethal Bierhaus.
The website launch was introduced by Kathryn Featherstone, the chair of the Lobethal Community Association (LCA). Kathryn spoke about the objective of the LCA to support the development of the town and wellbeing of its residents and said the website is a fantastic tool to enable the LCA to deliver its goals.
Volunteer Website manager, Kim Jordan, said the event was a great success. “Comment was made that the usual turnout for a public meeting in Lobethal is two blokes and a dog. Over thirty five people attended the Lobethal Bierhaus for the launch of the Lobethal Community Website.”
“There was a definite Buzz in the air at the conclusion of the meeting, with two local businesses and two community groups indicating they would like their own webpage. The ideas and discussion kept flowing and the Bierhaus closed an hour later than expected. Since the launch the Market has demonstrated their support by sponsoring the Home page,” said Kim.
So how did the website come into being? Kim suggested that the Community Association set up a website, Anthony Rizzuto of Otto Studios discovered that community geographic domain names were available and that a free web site builder was also available for community organisations. Community Association members expressed their support. After hours of discussion and countless cups of tea, a website plan and application was written!
Once the domain name was approved, Anthony developed the website design template, Kim project managed the website development with assistance from Kathryn. Bringing the website to fruition was not without some pain. Erica Ashton spent many hours taking and uploading photographs for the pictorial tour and history sections of the website. In the process she managed to sustain a broken wrist but still soldiered on with the task.
The website is now ready for community involvement. There is capacity for businesses or community groups to have their own webpage or individuals may be interested in developing content.
