“Guardian Angel” knitters for World Vision

Story ThumbnailLadies from as far away as Victor Harbour and Adelaide answered the recent call from the Gumeracha Uniting Church knitters to become “Guardian Angel” knitters for World Vision.

The 8 local knitters along with their 28 volunteers, were soon busily click-clacking their knitting needles and produced: 62 jumpers, 33 rugs, 50 pairs of bootees, 71 beanies, 15 pairs of mittens and 3 scarves for the children in Mongolia, the country that World Vision is helping in 2006.

The garments were packed (pictured above) and taken to the Guardian Pharmacy at Tanunda and from there, will be forwarded to World Vision.

The Church ladies enjoy their weekly knitting afternoons and have vowed to keep knitting, albeit perhaps a little slower as the weather warms up.

The enthusiasm of these ladies captured the imagination of one member’s grand-daughter in Darwin, who promptly dispatched a huge bag of knitting wool to Gumeracha.

A local spinner also donated wool to this group.

The Gumeracha Uniting Church ladies sincerely thank all who knitted garments – it was very much appreciated by them to have received such a huge response.

Please contact Valda Hanna on 8389 1195, Lisa Tilley on 0417 804 881 or Anne Cooper on 8389 1062 if you wish to continue knitting or join this enthusiastic group of knitters, particularly if you need some wool.

The Guardian Pharmacy at Tanunda has forwarded a “Guardian Angel” pin for these 36 dedicated knitting supporters for World Vision.
