Spring Valley Landcare Group

Story ThumbnailThe Spring Valley Landcare Group encompasses the townships of Springton and Eden Valley and has been in existence for about 20 years.

Their main focus is to improve the quality of the water flowing down the Springton Creek by encouraging landowners to keep stock out of the creek and revegetate the banks with the native plants which would have been there originally.

To this end they maintain a demonstration site on David Herbig’s property in Springton.

They also maintain the Jutland Water Reserve on the banks of the Marne River, as a future seed source.

The group also works with the Springton School to revegetate the Green Road in Springton.

Keep an eye out for this next time you drive down the Williamstown Road from Springton.

If you would like to become a member of this enthusiastic group, come along to the launch of the Management Plan of the Jutland Water Reserve on Wednesday, August 9th at 12 noon for a free sausage sizzle or phone Leon Holmes on 8568 2319 for further particulars.

The group have been successful in receiving a Water Testing Kit valued at $1,200, kindly donated by Dilmah Tea.

This will be demonstrated at the Reserve on August 9th.

It is fitting that Dilmah should donate a water testing kit, as good quality water and tea go very much hand in hand.

Five members of the Spring Valley Landcare Group have recently returned from Tumby Bay on the Eyre Peninsular, where they planted 600 trees, which they grew for the Bushfire Relief.

Well done landcarers!
