Sophie Thomson Celebrates with Hills Harvest Exchange
The Hills Harvest Exchange was launched back in September 2012 by Sophie Thomson, who has joined in the 1st and now 10th birthday celebrations.
“Sophie is our No 1 member and we were delighted that she made time to come along to our 10th birthday while she has been busy at the Royal Show”, said Val Hunt, Coordinator of the Hills Environment Centre.
Sophie Thomson is a popular horticulturist, author, television and radio personality and was the special guest at the Hills Harvest Exchange 10th birthday celebrations on September 10th. Sophie is a strong supporter of community gardens and veggie swaps and passionate about encouraging people to grow their own fruit and vegetables.
“Many of the members who joined in the first couple of years still come every month, and we love new members joining to see what they will bring along to the swap”. The community veggie swap is held on the first Saturday of each month from 10 am to noon at the Hills Environment Centre, in The Summit Community Centre, 4 Crescent Drive, Norton Summit.
“The Hills Harvest Exchange was started by community members, but word spread and members now travel from Wayville, Flagstaff Hill and Stirling to continue the friendships that have sprung up. They are an extremely friendly bunch of people, generous with their produce and knowledge, so new members feel very welcome right from the start,” said Val. New members are welcome to go along and see what happens at the veggie swap before joining. For further information contact Val – coordinator@ hecinc.org.au.
